The Event
On March 15, 2010, at the Alley Theatre, AMA Houston honored 40 Best of Category winners and announced the 2009 Marketer of the Year. Congratulations to each category winner and to AMA Houston's 2009 Marketer of the Year, Blinds.com. For a list of the Best of Category winners, view this PDF.
The event drew approximately 300 top Houston marketing professionals. The 2008 winner, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, was on hand to announce this year's winner. Past Marketer of the Year winners include the Houston Zoo (2007), Weatherford International (2006) and the Houston Symphony (2005).
This year, approximately 196 outstanding Houston-based companies, organizations and institutions were nominated by their industry peers, marketing leaders and chapter members for their innovative and effective marketing programs, and 40 of these became Best of Category winners, as determined by a vote of members combined with scoring by a local judging panel of marketing professionals. These Best of Category winners submitted detailed information regarding their marketing challenges and results, and this information was reviewed by a specially selected group of leading marketing professionals who live and work outside of Houston who selected Houston's 2009 Marketer of the Year.
Boeing, long the worldwide leader in commercial aircraft innovation, adopted a new approach in developing and marketing its remarkable new 787 'Dreamliner' passenger plane. Keynote speaker Ken Price explained why Boeing, facing strong foreign competition, decided to change its approach to marketing using research to listen to its customers' customers before designing and marketing the aircraft. Mr. Price detailed how that approach resulted in strategies that produced quantifiable results and the bottom line benefits that can come from great marketing.
