Andrew Leeper wasn’t born in Texas. He got here when he turned one-year old… (so cut him some slack). He did however bring his creativity and unique perspective to some of the most recognizable brands in the Lone Star State.
Attending college at the University of Texas, Andrew double-majored in Advertising and rock and roll. By day he studied Bernbach and Ogilvy, and at night he cut his teeth with DIY marketing for his punk band on 6th street. He managed to graduate from UT’s highly competitive creative advertising sequence while also scoring multiple record deals and touring the country with his band.
It wasn’t always easy to juggle the two lifestyles, but the collision of these two backgrounds gave Andrew a unique perspective on creative. He learned that a great idea is always more important than a big budget. That DIY ethos goes a long way in making brands more authentic and more innovative. He learned that constraints can truly drive innovation. He also learned if you’re going to get people’s attention you better make it interesting.
He brought that resourceful approach to brands like Texas Tourism, Dell, and ultimately combined his love of music and advertising by promoting Texas Music Office internationally as Creative Director at the Texas Music Office. In 2006, Andrew joined the Texas Lottery as Brand Strategy Director. Despite major budget cuts Andrew has applied his unique approach to help build the brand and creative that increased sales 166% from $3 Billion to $8 Billion.
Don’t worry, he’s not quitting his day job any time soon but you can still find him playing gigs at SXSW when he’s not developing ad campaigns for the Texas Lottery.
