SUMMARY:March 2026 | Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:Trust Is the Mission: How NASA Astronauts Humanize Space \nHow do you build trust when your “office” is 250 miles above Earth and your work is literally rocket science? In this session\, we explore NASA’s Social Media Strategy\, where astronauts serve as the agency’s most powerful brand ambassadors. By moving beyond technical data to share raw\, personal stories of training\, isolation\, and spaceflight\, NASA has mastered the art of humanizing a high-stakes brand.  \nAttendees will go “behind the visor” to see how NASA builds a global community of mission-driven fans rather than just passive content consumers. We will analyze how authenticity and radical transparency can bridge the gap between complex institutions and the public\, providing a roadmap for Houston marketers to elevate their own brands through human-centric storytelling. \nKey Takeaways \n\nThe “Human Interface” Advantage: Discover why personal narratives from frontline employees (or astronauts) generate significantly higher engagement and trust than polished\, faceless corporate messaging.\nTurning Experts into Brand Influencers: Learn how to train technical subject matter experts to translate complex data into “human” stories using accessible\, jargon-free language that resonates with a broad audience.\nThe “Solar System” Governance Model: Understand how to balance a strong flagship brand identity with the unique\, authentic voices of individual team members without losing cohesive messaging.\nMoving from Content to Connection: Gain insights into how interactive storytelling and active listening turn passive followers into a dedicated community of mission-driven advocates.\nAuthenticity Through Transparency: Explore how sharing the “behind-the-scenes” struggles and the “messy” parts of a journey can actually strengthen public credibility and long-term brand loyalty.\n\n\nSpeaker\nCamille Cowin\nSocial Media Lead for NASA’s Astronaut Office\nCamille Cowin is the Social Media Lead for NASA’s Astronaut Office at Johnson Space Center in Houston. She guides astronauts in sharing authentic\, real-time stories of life in space and training\, humanizing missions\, and building public trust. \nAs a Leidos contractor\, Camille connects audiences to astronaut missions aboard the International Space Station and to lunar missions like Artemis II\, which could mark the first time humans share their journey from lunar orbit on social media. \nWith more than a decade in media and communications\, including eight years at NASA\, her experience spans broadcast journalism\, live production\, and digital storytelling through roles at CNN\, The Voice\, NFL Network\, Valdosta State University\, and independent projects. She leverages this background to craft human-centered narratives for high-impact moments. \nOutside the office\, Camille is a mother from the North Georgia mountains who prioritizes time with her daughter and mentors emerging communicators. She holds a master’s in communications and has received a NASA Group Achievement Award\, three Integrated Mission Operations Contract Excellence Awards\, and a Webby nomination. \nHer work amplifying astronauts’ stories inspires the next generation\, making space exploration feel accessible and profoundly human. \n\nWHEN: \nMarch 18\, 2026\n11:30 am- 12:00 pm Networking\n12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Luncheon \nWHERE: \nUnited Way of Greater Houston\n50 Waugh Drive\, Houston\, TX\, 77007 \nPARKING: \nFree Parking Available –\nADA Accessible Parking is in the covered garage\, take the elevator down to the ground floor \nPRICING: \nEarly Bird Pricing Ends March 4\nAMA Member: $40 / $50 after Early Bird\nNon-Member: $50 / $70 after Early Bird\nStudent: $30 / $30 after Early Bird
