Art Director [JRP-01051]

Founded in 2005, BrandExtract is a Houston-based brand experience firm that helps growing companies in a wide array of industries create opportunities, transform their businesses and grow their influence. BrandExtract researches and analyzes companies from all angles in order to help them better understand and more effectively manage their brand experience. BrandExtract then works with these companies to create a brand that resonates with all stakeholders, proves itself true at every touch point and encourages steadfast and passionate belief.

We are currently seeking to hire an Art Director. In this role, you will be responsible for not only the visual style of brands but also for brand innovation. Your days may be filled with strategy sessions, internal approvals and meetings with the design team, as well as design sessions as you work on logos, brand boards, and more. You will also work with outside producers and directors to oversee the production of motion/film projects, trade show exhibits, immersive experiences, and physical spaces. The selected candidate will understand the design elements of projects, inspire other creative workers, and keep projects on budget and on time. You will report to the Director of Brand Experience (currently the acting Creative Director).


Guidance and leadership on brand design strategy for our clients which may include everything from developing concepts, to design sprints, to how to tactically execute the solution

During the Brand Assessment, contribute to the brand audit (visuals and messaging) and provide insight of competitive landscape to the Brand Strategist

Leading all aspects of design process and application; partnering across teams and ensuring full understanding of briefs/team responsibilities

Collaborate directly with the Brand Strategist and the Director of Brand Experience in developing the overarching brand’s UX strategy

Collaborate directly with Marketing leads to develop cohesive campaigns that are rooted in the brand and run across a variety of platforms (i.e. physical and/or digital)

Determines how best to represent a concept via traditional design means (graphically/visually) and lead the creation of mood boards, key visuals for brand boards and full brand identities

Works with other disciplines within BrandExtract (Creative, Digital Marketing, Development) to execute all pieces and extensions of the brand

Present design strategy, concepts, and visuals directly to the client when required

Quality assurance as design is being applied to digital deliverable
Strong/compelling presentation skills

Act as an ambassador for the brands worked on

Take direction from non-creative stakeholders and translate their business needs into campaign/creative ideas

Present design strategies, concepts and visuals to clients for approval

Work with Accounts to develop detailed budgets and timelines

Provide input and guidance on job schedules for creative/branding as they’re being developed

Provide oversight/supervision of the designers as they are working on your job(s) and review/approve what they are working on

Determine or provide guidance on which photographs, art, or other design elements to use

Provide guidance and feedback to outside vendors when needed (i.e. illustrators, 3D artist)

Collaborate and guide outside vendors in the production of motion/film projects, trade show exhibits, immersive experiences, photoshoots and physical spaces

Execute other duties as assigned, including new business pitches, internal agency projects, press checks (if needed), art direction for photo/video shoot

Contribute to agency knowledge sharing (i.e. Insights Articles, Podcast)

Mentor the Junior and Senior Designers on the team

Be self-directed, motivated, collaborative and be willing to learn, adapt and grow


B.F.A. in design communications or equivalent

6-8 years of design experience for a variety of industries and for a variety of solutions from logos to ads.

Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office proficiency

Proven services experience

Excellent leadership abilities

Experience serving as an ambassador for the brands you have worked on

Able to take direction from non-creative stakeholders and translate their business needs into campaign/creative ideas

Ability to create strong/compelling presentations

Self-directed, motivated, collaborative and willing to learn, adapt and grow
