We are currently seeking to hire an Assistant Vice President, University Relations. In this role, you will provide strategic direction for the University of Houston Downtown’s marketing, communication, and media efforts, in accordance with the mission and vision of the institution. You will direct the planning, development, and implementation of a comprehensive, multi-faceted communication and marketing program to promote UHD’s unique mission, enhance institutional visibility and support the strategic plan while protecting and further developing the overall branding and positioning strategy for UHD. The salary range for this role is $118,534 or higher, commensurate with experience and/or education.


Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to the planning, design, production, and implementation of all media, marketing and communication efforts(traditional and web-based) to meet strategic goals and to increase the university’s visibility, brand and reputation

Serve as the key project manager for strategic University Relations initiatives

Manage and lead the University Relations team

Oversee the fiscal budget and planning for the Office of University Relations, and ensure policies and procedures are followed

Develop the annual goals and metrics for evaluating the success of projects, initiatives, and efforts of team members in accordance with the institution’s strategic plan and goals, including the assessment and evaluation of marketing, communication and media efforts and the monitoring of publications, websites, and initiatives to ensure the promotion of University priorities

Support University Advancement by providing marketing and communication support in alignment with institutional priorities to support annual fundraising goals and capital campaign efforts

Collaborate with Enrollment Management and other related university departments to oversee the development and production of key enrollment marketing materials and communications for both undergraduate and graduate admissions

Oversee staff managing design, content, analytics, and search engine optimization for the University’s website and social media pages

Oversee the execution and adherence of the University’s print and electronic policies and guidelines

Protect the institution’s brand by enforcement of graphic standards

Serve as a key advisor to the President on UHD’s crisis management and emergency management team

Provides guidance and advice to the President and senior administration on significant public relations issues

Conduct performance evaluations and make recommendations for hiring and dismissing employees

Perform all other duties as assigned


Master’s degree in business, marketing, communication or related field

Minimum of seven (7) years of related job experience

Higher education experience is preferred

Deep understanding and knowledge of enrollment marketing, university branding, corporate communications, university emergency communications, and university website management, design, and development

Strong executive writing skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to manage and engage with university emergency communications

Ability to lead and manage a team of marketing, communications, and web professionals
