We are currently seeking to hire a Communications Analyst. In this role, you will lead the charge to develop engaging, cohesive internal content for our North American field and office employees. You will love to write, take pride in their first draft and generate content with journalistic speed and approach. In addition, you will serve as the content hub for the team and you will write intranet articles, leader communications, employee spotlights, earnings overviews, presentations, talking points, speeches and advertising copy. You will be a leader in developing employee town halls, informational sessions, newsletters and internal communications campaigns.

You will also assist with obtaining content deliverables from the communications team, internal Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), leaders and external partners or vendors. We’d like someone who is detail and deadline oriented and who can confidently interact with all levels of stakeholders to produce a final document or product. This role requires analytical thinking, writing adaptability for key audiences and an understanding of how to promote value propositions within internal and external content in a fast-paced environment. You will be part of the Communications, Sustainability, Government Relations and Investor Relations team, and interact with multiple disciplines within the organization. The team is comprised of dynamic, high-performing colleagues from diverse professional backgrounds, who are responsible for the representation of Plains internally and externally to numerous audiences across a variety of communication channels. The team — with representatives in both the US and Canada — is highly-integrated with company leadership and visible throughout the organization. Maintain the internal and external content calendar

Work with Communications Business Partners, Digital Communications Analyst and internal employees to plan an engaging content calendar for office and field employees

Review content mix and messages to find opportunities for synergies or cross promotion of internal campaigns

Anticipate and plan for recurring content around events and company milestones including town halls, earnings and holiday communications

Utilize current systems for scheduling and posting. Introduce efficiencies wherever possible

Monitor incoming employee emails, suggestions and “Ask Leadership” questions and propose methods to socialize messaging and responses to employee concerns

Write, edit, solicit approvals and post internal content on internal channels

Identify why each message/email/article should resonate with our employee base and highlight the “why” within the lead

Conduct internal interviews with SMEs, employees and leaders with the goal of developing thought leadership content for our internal and external stakeholders

Consolidate and reconcile edits.  Work with legal and leaders to solicit approvals

Monitor engagement with that content (on the intranet, via email, etc.) and make continuous suggestions for improvement

Refine company writing style and voice

Thread notes of our culture and the “Plains Way” throughout all content

Develop guidelines, templates and best practices for writing for key audiences. Provide guidance for other team members on voice and tone

Update language on fact sheets, website content, intranet, presentations and other materials to introduce refined tone

Produce communications plans and recommendations for key projects and announcements

Work closely with Communications Business Partners to devise communications plans for internal initiatives around introduction of policies and procedures, adoption of new technology, employee engagement, employee advocacy and issues management

Work with direct internal customers to understand communication goals and provide strategic recommendations on content channels, frequency and timing to elicit optimal engagement from audiences

Provide internal and external ad copy for targeted campaigns or initiatives around the company footprint

Maintain existing internal content tools and update as needed

Assist with updating the company intranet and participate in large scale user experience testing and development for future phases

Serve as point person for internal newsletters.  Prioritize content and layout to suit employee needs

Learn and utilize existing tools (Constant Contact, Sharepoint, Sprout, Adobe Creative Suite, Kentiko) or equivalents to create, post and distribute information to stakeholders

Provide guidance and serve as a champion for new project management tools and employee engagement tools

General team support

Serve as point person on content creation and logistics for the employee town hall events

Use existing media monitoring tool to monitor, analyze and distribute media clips and mentions

Work with Communications business partners and other colleagues to assess department monitoring needs and develop appropriate, tailored reporting and cadence\

During emergency training exercises or in the event of a crisis, work within communications response team and support activities driven by the Unified Command including but not limited to community email updates, social media/response sites and collateral development

Provide overall project management support to the strategic communications services team

Maintain content calendar, production schedules and timelines for team deliverables


Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a focus in Communications, Journalism or a related discipline, and a minimum of 5 years prior related experience

Excellent interpersonal skills; can develop effective collaborative working relationships with internal and external personnel at all levels, and from a variety of disciplines

Strong writing and verbal communication skills

Results-oriented team player, with keen attention to detail

Works well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment

Ability to write and turn around content quickly for multiple stakeholders

Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines

Highest standard of personal ethics and integrity supported by open and honest communication

Experience working in design programs is considered an asset

Creative problem-solver who can assess the needs of the business, recommend and apply solutions
