The Post Oak School is an educational leader—both among Houston’s top private schools and among the more than 5,000 Montessori schools across the country. Post Oak has operated continuously since 1963 and is a non-profit corporation. With a faculty and staff of over 100, we provide a culturally diverse student population with a comprehensive education founded on AMI Montessori principles from early childhood through high school.

We are currently seeking to hire a Communications Specialist. In this role, you will promote the mission of The Post Oak School in support of Admissions and Development. You will work closely with the senior communications specialist to produce marketing and communications materials. This is a full-time, 12-month role with full benefits. The selected candidate will report to the development director.


Collaborate with the senior communications

Brainstorm ideas for fresh content creation across all channels

Manage projects and tasks in Asana

Distribute urgent communications as needed, including after hours

Plan, create, and publish weekly digital newsletters for internal and external audiences using the school’s content management system (CMS), Finalsite

Cultivate relationships across the school community to identify opportunities for content creation across all channels, liaise with others to gather content, and track content sourced outside of the team

Write content for news stories, the school blog, social media posts, email communications, newsletters, magazine articles, etc.

Plan, create, and publish content for social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn); evaluate progress and suggest improvements; monitor social channels

Regularly take and organize photos of school events (during and after school hours) and general life at both campuses; resize photos for use on the website and social media; assist with photo archiving

Assist with video projects

Assist with website maintenance and coordinate annual updates to website and portals

Edit, set up, and send mass emails using My BackPack and Finalsite

Assist with graphics and collateral creation using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva

Support proofing of administrative emails to a large audience

Monitor school’s main info email account and forward messages as needed

Regularly review the school’s calendars for consistency

Support the development director as needed including working at school events

Attend required meetings and training

Assist with morning arrivals when needed

Other duties as assigned by the development director and senior communications specialist


Associate’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications, English, graphic design)

Minimum of two to three years of experience in marketing and communications

Comfortable working around and with children and interacting with parents

Ability to identify, capture, and convey stories in alignment with Post Oak’s mission

Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously

Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

Strong social media skills in a professional setting

Strong photography skills and a good eye for design, videography experience helpful

Understanding of diversity, equity, inclusivity, and justice (DEIJ) work and its impact on communications

Solid understanding of HTML and content management systems

Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite

Excellent time management and organizational skills

Proactive, creative, and growth-oriented professional
