Houston Recovery Center provides vital services to the greater Houston community. We operate the Sobering Center, a jail diversion program for public intoxication. We keep people who partied a bit too much out of jail, help them safely sober up and get them connected to recovery services if needed. For people living on the street with substance use disorders, we conduct street outreach programs to establish trusted relationships and bridge them to recovery services and housing when they are ready. The demand for our services has expanded our reach into the jail, courts, adult probation and working with EMS on emergency response programs for opioid overdoses. In short, we specialize in working with people who misuse substances and often don’t know it and support them during their recovery process. We love what we do.

In five short years we have accomplished a lot. We operate in the heart of public health and partner with over 50 agencies and organizations. This year our work with be published in the American Journal of Public Health. So we are gaining national attention.

We are currently seeking to hire a Communications Coordinator. In this role, you will help us tell our story with your exceptional writing and editing skills. You will work with our team to produce written communications for the purpose of educating and reporting agency services to stakeholders. In addition, you will manage our social media campaign to improve our community reach, build our brand and inspire public support. Additional communications tasks are related to program funding, accreditation and advocacy which detail our service model, program outcomes and make the case for client resources and support. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in producing newsletter, social media campaigns, blogs

Maintain website updates and storyboard

Produce or edit documents for internal and external distribution, including:

- Program performance reports

- Fundraising communications

- Grants

- Presentations for stakeholders and public audiences

- Marketing materials

- Training materials

- Academic publications

Review agency operational processes and update procedures

Assist the Director of Data Management & Development on special projects as needed

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor Degree in communications, marketing or behavioral sciences; Master’s Degree preferred

Three years of work/volunteer related experience in professional environment

Proficiency in MS Office Suite; Knowledge of WordPress is a plus

Excellent writing and editing skills is essential

Experience in social media campaigns is a plus

Experience in conducting research in peer reviewed journals is a plus
