We are currently seeking to hire a highly-motivated Digital Communications Analyst who enjoys working as part of a team in a dynamic and entrepreneurial work environment. In this role, you will be part of the Communications, Sustainability, Government Relations and Investor Relations team, and interact with multiple disciplines within the organization. The team is comprised of dynamic, high-performing colleagues from diverse professional backgrounds, who are responsible for the representation of Plains internally and externally to numerous audiences across a variety of communication channels. This North American team is highly-integrated with company leadership and visible throughout the organization. The selected candidate will spearhead online engagement activities for Plains, including social media, social listening, email, and advertising campaigns focused on internal and external stakeholders. In addition, you will serve as the enterprise lead with multiple external vendors who support Plains’ digital media initiatives. You will also possess creative and analytical thinking, a comprehensive understanding of digital communications tools, including social media, and at times, to be able respond quickly and turn around content in a fast-paced environment to address stakeholder concerns.

Digital strategy, content and creative support:
Work with internal groups to understand organizational needs and offer digital solutions where applicable

Plan, develop content, update and monitor company websites and digital properties

Support current digital initiatives including website consolidation, intranet maintenance/development, existing social media channels (i.e. Facebook, LinkedIn)

Remain current on digital trends, audit new social platforms and test efficacy for Plains and identify/introduce social media engagement plans and tools, and as needed to enhance and expand existing communication channels

Review digital analytics and produce recommendations to improve user engagement

Collect and edit video for social media channels, employee newsletters and the intranet

Write posts, newsletter articles and copy for internal and external communications and campaigns

Assist with art direction for photo/video shoots and online advertising campaigns

Maintain internal and external content calendars. Analyze reach and/or sentiment and revise as needed

Support design and creative work for the team

Social media:
Collaborate with internal and external audiences (employees, trade organizations, vendors, non-profit organizations) to develop, optimize and repurpose content for Plains social media sites

Work within existing social media management tool to schedule posts and respond to comments and direct messages

Conduct research and report on brand sentiment within mentions and conversations. Analyze for insights and create actionable recommendations

Audience research, measurement and media monitoring:
Use existing media monitoring tool to monitor, analyze and distribute media clips and mentions (work with Communications business partners and other colleagues to assess department monitoring needs and develop appropriate, tailored reporting and cadence)

Collaborate on audience research surveys, polling and listening sessions (provide insights, trends and actionable recommendations to Communications team)

Work with Communications business partners to understand stakeholder characteristics and make recommendations to improve outreach activities

Crisis communications:
Create and manage an external website for use during a crisis. Update design, populate with evergreen content, graphics and manage during an incident

During emergency training exercises or in the event of a crisis, work within communications response team and support activities driven by the Unified Command including but not limited to community email updates, social media / response sites and collateral development

Lead monitoring and reporting for media and social media in the event of a crisis.  If needed, work with vendor to analyze sentiment and community concerns

In the event of a crisis, work with the Crisis Communications Manager and the Strategic Communications Manager to respond to stakeholder questions


Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a focus in Communications or a related discipline, with 3+ years prior related experience

Creative problem-solver who can assess the needs of the business, recommend and apply digital solutions

Experience with social media management, digital measurement and analytics, and familiarity with content management systems

Technical knowledge to create and edit videos and manage website content

Excellent interpersonal skills; can develop effective collaborative working relationships with internal and external personnel at all levels, and from a variety of disciplines

Strong writing and verbal communication skills

Results-oriented team player, with keen attention to detail

Works well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment

Ability to write and turn around content quickly for multiple stakeholders

Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines

Highest standard of personal ethics and integrity supported by open and honest communication

Experience working in design programs, is considered an asset

Able to travel with limited notice to lead incident communications

Ability to travel (up to 10%) and work extended or off-hours to manage social media channels or during a crisis/issues management response, as required
