The mission of Space Center Houston is to inspire all generations through the wonders of space exploration. We aspire to be the world’s leading science and space exploration learning center. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center, a Smithsonian Affiliate and a Certified Autism Center. The center features more than 400 space artifacts, hands-on interactive educational exhibits, and robust youth programs interpreting the exciting future and remarkable past of America’s human spaceflight program.

We are currently seeking to hire a full-time Digital Marketing Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, planning, and executing the digital marketing and social media strategy for Space Center Houston across multiple platforms. You will work with the Director of Communications and Marketing and other team members to promote the Space Center Houston brand, support internal departmental marketing needs, grow our digital footprint and reach, drive incremental attendance/visitors, and collaborate with tourism and community partners including NASA and Johnson Space Center. This is primarily an in-office role and you will serve as the digital marketing subject matter expert for the Center. The selected candidate will have 5+ years of experience in the digital marketing realm. Space Center Houston offers a competitive salary and benefits package.


Develop and implement overall digital marketing strategies, operations, and planning

Create and implement an agile, strategic approach to digital marketing that aligns with the Center’s mission/vision and that is scalable with clear and attainable performance metrics

Work closely with internal departments as clients to assess marketing needs, make data-based recommendations and drive marketing plans to reach goals

Advance a content strategy that amplifies organizational messaging, is search-engine optimized, well-written and on-brand to grow our digital audiences

Produce strategic paid search and digital advertising plans to maximize brand visibility, promote key messages, achieve positive PR and market to targeted audiences

Help maintain the email program including supporting internal clients, building editorial calendars, and implementing best practices to optimize acquisition, retention, and promotion

Manage social media strategy (organic and paid) to grow brand engagement and conversions that drive revenue and celebrate the brand

Supervise one social media specialist working together to create and align editorial calendar and paid campaigns, adjusting tactics based on data

Manage workflow timeline and meet deadlines while executing multiple projects by using project management software and advanced organizational skills

Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and processes for areas of responsibility

Monitor, update and analyze public digital-account profiles such as Google Places, Charity Navigator, GuideStar, Wikipedia and others to ensure accuracy and best practices.

Work with agency of record to coordinate internal digital efforts with campaigns they are running

Report on all campaign KPIs, results, key findings, best practices, and recommendations in relation to the Center’s mission including Google Analytics integration

Manage Google Grants efforts

Manage, write, organize and optimize the center’s website to meet brand standards, support public relations, marketing objectives and drive website revenue growth

Monitor industry trends and competitive websites supporting ongoing audit mindset and continuous improvement to maximize acquisition and conversion rates

Manage vendors to support ongoing website development needs and deliverables

Develop strong relationships and work on mutually beneficial projects with key internal and external partners such as convention and visitor bureaus, NASA Visitor Center Consortium and NASA

Research and stay current with digital media, marketing, and public relations trends

Support the work of, collaborate with and back up, other communications and marketing team members

Bachelor’s degree in digital marketing, marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field

Minimum 5 years of professional experience in digital marketing strategy, website content management, and using online marketing programs to acquire new customers with at least 2 years in a supervisory role

Experience with A/B testing, tagging, and marketing automation tools

Experience in successfully managing strategic social media campaigns on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, blogs, wikis, RSS, discussion forums and other online platforms

Excellent writing skills (AP style) and experience in engaging and creative website content

Experienced with social media analytic tools and website analytic tools

Proficient with Facebook Insights, YouTube Insights, Twitter Analytics and Google Analytics

Google Tag Manager experience is preferred

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Experience in traditional marketing channels including OOH, print, radio, TV and how to integrate with digital marketing is preferred

Experience utilizing and designing in email platforms (ex. Mailchimp) is preferred

High level of professionalism, energy, enthusiasm, and collaboration

Able to give and accept constructive criticism

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills

Strong attention to detail, especially in proofing and making accurate edits, and an ability to solve problems and offer solutions

Available to work flexible hours including some weekends and/or nights

Insatiable curiosity for how all things digital work is a plus

Experience with crisis communications in digital media is a plus

Bilingual Spanish is a plus with ability to read, write and speak proficiently
