The mission of Space Center Houston is to inspire all generations through the wonders of space exploration. We aspire to be the world’s leading science and space exploration learning center. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center, a Smithsonian Affiliate and a Certified Autism Center. The center features more than 400 space artifacts, hands-on interactive educational exhibits, and robust youth programs interpreting the exciting future and remarkable past of America’s human spaceflight program.

We are currently seeking to hire a full-time Digital Marketing Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for communicating key strategic messages and helping promote and maintain a favorable public image for Space Center Houston and the Manned Space Flight Education Foundation. You will help develop and execute strategic communication plans for Space Center Houston’s website and other digital platforms. This allows the organization to build mutually beneficial relationships with external and internal stakeholders. The selected candidate will work in collaboration with the Communications Specialist and the communications and marketing team to market Center programs, elevate the brand, practice excellent public relations, encourage donors to give and the public to visit, communicate to the Center’s visitors in order to enhance their experiences, and project the Center as an employer of choice.  Space Center Houston offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop strategic and proactive website and digital advertising plans and programs, with the immediate supervisor, to communicate organization’s key messages, achieve ongoing positive publicity, enhance the brand, market and promote programs and achieve department and organizational goals and objectives

Incorporate into the digital advertising plans and programs (as well as drive) a strong content strategy that amplifies organizational messaging through: Content that authentically engages the community; Content that is search-engine optimized; Content that is well written and engaging; and Growth of the center’s digital audience

Update the Center’s WordPress website to meet communications and marketing objectives

Implement strategic digital display and video advertising campaigns for the center and individual clients

Manage Google Grants efforts

Work with Communications Team to ensure digital and social strategy and calendars align with other communications goals and strategies

Work with agency of record to coordinate internal digital efforts with campaigns they are running

Write excellent, creative and concise digital and website content using AP style that engages audiences and is tailored to each varied medium

Monitor, update and analyze public digital-account profiles such as Google Places, Charity Navigator, GuideStar, Wikipedia and others to ensure accuracy and that best practices are in being used by the foundation

Manage, write, develop, design, organize and update the center’s website to meet public relations and marketing objectives (understand and be able to incorporate good design and be creative)

Develop system to keep content updated and fresh

Draw online traffic using SEO strategies, including technical, on-page and off page practices

Monitor, analyze and write reports for all campaigns that include key performance indicators, results, key findings, best practices and recommendations; as well as weekly, monthly and annual reports on overall digital programs (reports should show the value and ROI of the digital communications programs and how they contribute to the success of the organization’s programs and goals)

Monitor website traffic to continuously improve the website and provide feedback to communications team about marketing of center programs on the website

Give accurate project timeline projections, acquire approvals and meet deadlines while managing and executing multiple projects and priorities (both independently and working with a team) by using project management systems and advanced organizational skills

Compile digital media data for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports

Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and processes for area of responsibility

Meet deadlines while managing and executing multiple projects and priorities by using project management systems and advanced organizational skills

Collaborate with Center’s agency of record, supporting their advertising and branding efforts on behalf of the Center

Develop strong relationships and work on mutually beneficial projects with key partners such as convention and visitor bureaus, NASA Visitor Center Consortium members and NASA

Research and stay current with digital media, marketing and public relations trends

Support the work of, collaborate with and back up, other communications team members

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in digital marketing, marketing, journalism, public relations, communications or a related field

Minimum 2 years of professional experience in digital marketing, website content management, and using online marketing programs to acquire new customers

Experience with A/B testing, tagging and marketing automation tools

Experienced in successfully managing strategic social media campaigns on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, blogs, wikis, RSS, discussion forums and other online platforms

Experienced in managing and designing websites and their content, including a history of goal-oriented SEO strategy and implementation

Excellent writing skills and experience in writing engaging and creative website content

Experienced with social media analytic tools and website analytic tools

Proficient with Facebook Insights, YouTube Insights, Twitter Analytics and Google Analytics

Preferred experience in Adobe Creative Suite and knowledge of graphic design best practices and principles for digital communications and print

Experience with CMS editing, specifically WordPress and knowledge of HTML and CSS

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (comfortable and able to work with Microsoft Windows products)

Experience with CRM software is a plus

High level of professionalism, energy, enthusiasm and collaboration

Able to give and accept constructive criticism

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills in order to interact with various internal and external stakeholders

Strong attention to detail, especially in proofing and making accurate edits, and an ability to solve problems and offer solutions

Available to work flexible hours including some weekends and/or nights

Photography, videography and video editing experiences are pluses
