We are currently seeking to hire a Director of Communications. In this role, you will be charged with directing marketing, branding and communication strategies and tactics that promote a focused, consistent and positive image of the mission, programs and activities of the George R. Brown School of Engineering to internal and external audiences. You will oversee all digital and print publications, websites and social media promoting the School of Engineering. The selected candidate will report to the Dean of Engineering and work with department staff to coordinate communication efforts across the nine departments of the School of Engineering. The starting salary for this role is between $90,000 and $105,000 per year.

Develop and execute marketing strategies and marketing plans to meet departmental and/or organizational objectives
Lead the execution of communication and brand strategy for multiple programs incorporating appropriate channels
Recruit, manage, develop, and retain staff
Sets budget, goals, and objectives in alignment with organizational goals
Manage vendor relationships
Oversee market research and analysis
Use the results to inform decisions regarding strategic marketing direction, product segmentation and customer targeting
Assess market opportunities and track market trends (implement marketing improvements based on findings)
Perform all other duties as assigned
Work with internal and external resources to develop and execute marketing and communication projects aimed at increasing the visibility of the School of Engineering, its departments, faculty, and students
Ensure compliance with Rice branding and style guidelines
Work closely with department website managers to ensure fresh, accurate, and completing content on all school of engineering sites
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, English or other relevant discipline
Eight (8) years of related experience in managing comprehensive outreach and communications campaigns
Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead staff, including team building
Ability to work collaboratively and take initiative in sensitive and high-pressure situations; creative; decisiveness; strong interpersonal skills
Possess organization and creativity skills
Familiarity with digital and print production process
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal relationship skills
Master’s degree in public relations or communications (In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted)
Five (5) years of experience managing comprehensive outreach and communications campaigns for higher education organizations
Familiarity with engineering education
