Child Advocates recruits, trains and supports volunteers who provide a voice for children in foster care. As Harris County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program, we provide lifesaving advocacy that helps abused and neglected children exit foster care to a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible.

Our volunteers’ main job is to provide the court with recommendations about where the children they represent should live on a permanent basis. Throughout the case, our volunteers maintain contact with everyone involved in the children’s lives, from foster parents, biological parents and therapists to Child Protective Services caseworkers and attorneys appointed by the court. They make sure the children are receiving the medical and psychological help they need, and they meet with teachers and principals to help the children thrive in school. They dry tears and give hugs and throw birthday parties, too. Most importantly, they serve as a ‘constant’ person for the children to count on during this tumultuous time. Essentially, our volunteers do whatever it takes to ensure that the needs of the children are being met while they are in care.

We are currently seeking to hire a Marketing & Communications Coordinator. In this role, you will coordinate and support the marketing, communications and recruitment awareness efforts and goals of the Marketing & Communications Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creation (under the direction of the Marketing & Communications Director) of internal and some external promotional materials including, but not limited to board cards, meeting announcements, letterhead, business cards, notepads, postcard invites

Assist Marketing & Communications Director with creating and producing all collateral need for special events (printed and digital)

Share responsibility in enforcing Child Advocates’ graphic and image standards and guidelines, ensuring that all printed materials are in-line with the organizational image

Provide staff members with price quotes for their desired work and work with print service providers to complete projects

Work with Marketing & Communications Director to employ the Child Advocates web site as an effective communication tool

Work with Marketing & Communications Director in updating the web site regularly, developing new ideas and uses for web site, communicating and coordinating with staff for new content and updates for the website, as well as regular auditing of site to ensure that all content is up to date

Assist Marketing & Communications Director in the planning, writing, editing and creating printed publications and e-newsletters

Work with Marketing & Communications Director to create and implement a social and digital media plan

Work with Marketing & Communications Director to solicit avenues for Child Advocates events to appear in the media (radio, print, Internet, video)

Serve as secondary responsive media spokesperson

Remain current on issues affecting abused children and Child Advocates position on these issues

Public relations projects as assigned by the Marketing & Communications Director for: special events, calendar listings, media interviews, photography, etc.

Assist the Marketing & Communications Director in staff/volunteer media training, media interviews, crisis plan development and training

Participate on an as needed basis w/event committees to determine public relations needs of committees and execute agreed upon public relations initiatives

Work with Marketing & Communications Director achieve strategic planning goals for the recruitment of advocate volunteers by using a pro-active & innovative approach to educating interested persons about Child Advocates and its volunteer opportunities

Develop and implement specific diversity recruitment plan targeting

Initiate and cultivate contacts to result in increased interest in Child Advocates among all appropriate demographics

Assess and implement processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of recruitment tracking and follow-up

Under supervision of Marketing & Communications Director work with front desk receptionist to ensure superior customer service for volunteer inquiries including assessment and improvement of tracking procedures

Develop and create various collateral and ads that target potential and/or current volunteers

Find creative ways to promote the mission of Child Advocates and implement a soft-sell recruitment approach at all appropriate special events

Coordinate the activities of the Child Advocates Ambassadors – a team of volunteers that assists with speaking engagements & other activities (this includes offering speaker trainings, securing speaking engagements, and maintaining correspondence with members)

Be a positive and proactive participant in other team and organizational projects as needed

Attending team meetings and staff meetings

Support team and organizational events, including, but not limited to:  Advocacy University Training, advisory board meetings/luncheons as needed and/or approved by the team leader and CEO

Attend and work at all special fundraising events (Pull for Kids, Superhero Run, Angels of Hope Luncheon, and others)

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of 2 years marketing (in-house or agency) experience or related experience

Experience with multiple content creation and management as well as ad creation for multiple social media channels

Experience with public/media relations is plus

Collateral development skills using Adobe Creative Suite; creative and writing

Demonstrated project management skills

Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-tasked, team environment

Experience working for a non-profit organization is a plus

Education: B.A. degree with a preference for Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Communications or Advertising

Valid Texas Driver’s License

Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Strong written skills for writing and editing organizational publications, press releases, promotional/marketing material

Strong verbal skills to effectively help represent Child Advocates during radio and/or television interviews and events and/or meetings that require public speaking

Strong visual communication skills will be essential in the development of effective promotional materials

Experience with email campaigns (writing and creating)

Sharp attention to detail for editing and proofing publications, promotional materials, etc.

Experience in website editing (via a content management system) is a plus

Ability to initiate and manage large projects and see them through completion

Able to work efficiently to meet deadlines

Ability to work some weekends and evenings as job requires
