The Holocaust Museum Houston is currently seeking to hire a Stewardship & Donor Engagement Officer. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and implementing key strategies and initiatives for donor engagement, recognition and stewardship for both potential donors and donor groups. The Development Officer is responsible for developing a comprehensive effort to ensure donors experience high-quality interactions with HMH that foster long-term engagement and investment. This Officer works independently to lead staff and volunteers in planning, coordinating and executing donor engagement and stewardship activities as well as focus on midrange donors to move up their giving.


Create and implement a comprehensive donor engagement strategy to enable meaningful recognition and engagement of mid to high level individuals and corporate donors, including: - Stewardship of donors through creation and delivery of specialized donor recognition correspondence, newsletters, gratitude report and other fundraising collateral; cultivation events; branding of affinity groups and initiatives

Manage a ‘top donor’ stewardship program that recognizes individual donors

Develop and manage a midrange donor program to increase giving

Oversee gift acknowledgment process and other communication with donor populations

Develop event and communication strategies to support affinity group activities and others throughout the year

Develop and execute stewardship plan with team members while monitoring consistency in the delivery of each defined step

Develop strategies to secure second gifts and track success

Develop a first time donor program as well as mid-level giving program to increase retention and giving

Partner with Development; Marketing; and other team members on development of collateral materials

Research and recommend adoption of appropriate new products and strategies for communication tools

Manage database (CRM) for special major donor events and other activities

Establish budget goals in this category in consultation with Chief Development Officer and management

Prepare written materials, including correspondence, solicitation materials, acknowledgements, and regular communications as part of the stewardship program

Actively seeks funds from mid-level donor prospects

Work collaboratively with HMH staff

Develop metrics to compare against national benchmarks-retention rates; second gifts received; LYBUNT


Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and donors in order to develop relationships between them and the museum

Flexible and show a high degree of initiative

Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

Excellent computer skills and knowledge of fundraising database programs

Bachelor’s degree preferably in Marketing

At least 3 years of nonprofit fundraising/development or sales experience or equivalent marketing experience
