Houston Grand Opera is currently seeking to hire a Director of Marketing. In this role, you will, you will strengthen our brand and raise its visibility to ensure it is recognized as one of the most highly acclaimed opera companies in the United States. The selected candidate will report to the Chief Marketing and Experience Officer.


  • Work with the CMXO to develop an overall marketing and communications strategy to ensure multi-channel sales and marketing strategies deliver measurable results against goals
  • Direct the development and lead the execution of marketing campaigns for ticket sales, community initiatives and special events, including creation of print materials, mailings, web set-up and testing, email strategy, social media strategy, etc.
  • Act as brand manager, managing all marketing-based activities that promote, enhance, and protect brand including the annual marketing campaign, collateral, publications, and signage
  • Hire and supervise creative services team, including graphic design, videography, and social media. As well as third party designers, photographers, and videographers
  • Work collaboratively with digital marketing team on organization’s digital communications, including website content and development, e-mail, and social media activities reach sales and branding goals
  • Oversee all advertising, promotional and grassroots efforts to increase single ticket sales and attract new audiences including partnerships and affinity groups
  • Be visionary for audience growth initiatives, marketing materials, and adverting assets
  • Support public relations efforts, including drafting press releases, coordinating with outside PR agencies and media outlets, pitching story ideas, and event management
  • Take the lead on regular and ad hoc reporting and campaign analysis and formulating conclusions and solutions to address key needs and areas of improvement (regularly evaluate programs to ensure effectiveness and efficiency)
  • Serve on Senior Management Team and support organization’s mission/vision statement, strategic focus, and company values (use position to identify company-wide marketing needs, goals, and objectives)
  • Hire, supervise and mentor members of the Audiences team (provide leadership and training to ensure their success in reaching goals)


  • 10+ years of marketing experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Proven writing experience
  • Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to lead and manage a cross-functional department in successful campaigns and day-to-day operations
  • Able to ensure effective execution and delivery of marketing plans, as well as experience managing overall company brand
  • Previous experience in non-profit or performance arts organizations is preferred
  • Familiarity with the operatic repertoire and industry is a large plus
  • Able to work nights and weekend hours
