AMA Houston congratulates Phillips 66 US Marketing on winning the 2014 Marketer of the Year for Houston, announced at the chapter’s March 5, 2015 Marketer of the Year awards event at the Hobby Center Zilkha Hall. During the event, AMA Houston also honored the 63 category finalists and announced the 21 Best in Category winners.

Scores of a local judging panel of marketing professionals determined the category finalists and Best in Category winners. The marketing programs of the top scoring finalists in the local round were scored again by a final-round judging panel composed of marketing professionals from across the country. These final-round scores determined the 2014 Marketer of the Year winner.

Celebrating its 10th year, AMA Houston’s Marketer of the Year program recognizes exceptional marketing by Houston area companies, organizations and institutions. Prior winners include YMCA of Greater Houston, Aliana Development Company, Discovery Green, University of Houston Athletic Department, Blinds.com, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, the Houston Zoo, Weatherford International and the Houston Symphony.

Keynote Speaker

The keynote speaker was Russ Klein, CEO, American Marketing Association, who will discuss “Best Practices vs. Next Practices.” Klein is responsible for the overall direction of the organization which is made up of 75 chapters across the nation. Klein began his career on the agency side, representing such brands as Gatorade, McDonald’s and United Airlines. He then moved to the client side in top marketing roles for brands including Dr. Pepper/Seven-Up, Burger King and Arby’s.

Legendary Dinners

New for this year’s Marketer of the Year event was a “Legendary Dinners” silent auction, which gave attendees the opportunity to bid on and win a personal, one-on-one dinner with one of nine leaders in the Houston business community. The list of business leaders included Houston Mayor, Annise Parker; Houston Business Journal Publisher, John Beddow; Morgan Chase Houston Region Chair, Gina Luna; Camden Property Trust Chairman, Ric Campo; retired NASA Astronaut, Clayton C. Anderson; Tony’s, Vallone’s and Ciao Bello founder, Tony Vallone; Cadence Bank CEO and President, Paul B. Murphy, Jr.; Houston Texans linebacker, Whitney Mercilus; and Houston Restaurant Week founder and philanthropist, Cleverley Stone. Some of Houston’s legendary restaurants sponsored these Legendary Dinners. They included Tony’s , Hugo’s, REEF, Killen’s Steakhouse , The Corner Table , Masraff’s , Truluck’s and The Palm.
