American Marketing Association Houston Announces Christine Mathers 2014 Chapter Volunteer of the Year

Highest Individual Honor Given by National Professional Chapters Council and the American Marketing Association

HOUSTON TX – April 1, 2014 – The Houston Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA Houston) is pleased to announce that Houston native Christine Mathers has been named 2014 Chapter Volunteer of the Year.  The annual award, given by AMA’s Professional Chapters Council and AMA Headquarters, is one of the organization’s highest individual honors, and rewards a chapter volunteer’s ongoing leadership and success.

“The lives of AMA chapter leaders around the country have been improved by Christine Mathers’ contributions,” said Robin Tooms, AMA Houston past-president.  “At both the national and local level, Christine has been a crucial part of making the American Marketing Association valuable to our members and is a perfect example of a national AMA Volunteer of the Year.”

Christine’s AMA volunteer service began at the local level with committee roles, board membership and then chapter president, where she led Houston to Chapter of the Year honors. During her time as Houston chapter president she launched the chapter’s Chief Marketing Officer Initiative to help reach an underserved group of senior marketers and re-established Houston’s Marketer of the Year program.

Christine also served on the Professional Chapters Council in a variety of roles, including Leadership Summit Co-Chair and PCC President. Christine’s core philosophy of “leave it better than you found it” has helped define her impact on members and chapter leaders through her dedication to improving chapter processes, her positive and personable leadership style and her ability to inspire and lead other volunteers by example.

“In our volunteer work with AMA, we feel truly privileged for the chance to work with so many wonderful people,” said Tooms.  “Christine is certainly one of the ‘gems’ of AMA. She is a shining example of all that is great in this organization – that generous, bright, dedicated individuals working together can positively shape an entire profession for years to come.”

In recognition of Christine’s exceptional service, she will receive a letter of appreciation from AMA CEO Dennis Dunlap, a commemorative plaque, and honorary lifetime membership. Christine will be recognized in person, locally, at the AMA Houston on April 9th at 11:30am, and again in Chicago in front of a national audience at Leadership Summit 2014 this spring.
