Our Charitable Giving Mission: Helping Non-Profits Market More Effectively
AMA Houston Gives Back is the philanthropic arm of our chapter. Each year, AMA Houston distributes a minimum of one third of our chapter's net income in the form of AMA Houston Gives Back Grants funding marketing efforts for local non-profit organizations. While the grant program has long been the cornerstone of this program, AMA Houston Gives Back also provides members the opportunity donate their time and talent in support of nonprofit organizations.
AMA Houston Gives Back Grant
Since 2008 AMA Houston Gives Back has provided financial support to non-profits needing assistance with marketing-related activities. Since its inception the program has granted a total of $66,000 to more than 30 local non-profit organizations.
In 2015, AMA Houston expanded the program and paired marketing professionals with AMA Houston Gives Back Grant recipients to assist them in strategically and effectively applying grant funds to make a measureable impact for their organization. So the saying goes, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
Apply for a Grant
AMA Houston members who work for or support a non-profit may nominate or apply for a grant to support that organizations’ marketing needs. You just need to be an AMA member and a supporter (employee, volunteer, member or financial contributor) of the non-profit organization for which you are applying. Have more than one favorite non-profit? There is no limit on the number of organizations you can enter.
Grant applications are now being accepted until May 1, 2017. Recipient organizations will be notified by May 26th. Recipients will be announced and grants will be distributed in June at the AMA Networking Luncheon.
Submit the application form and any supporting materials on or before May 1 at midnight.

AMA Houston Gives Back Scholarship
AMAGB will also award a $5,000 scholarship to a local undergraduate marketing student. The scholarship will help offset the cost of higher education for an undergraduate marketing student with roots in or studying in the Houston marketing community.

Announcing the Penny Todd Scholarship
The AMA Houston Chapter announces the naming of its annual scholarship program in honor of Penny Todd, a past chapter president and the founding chair of AMA Houston Gives Back, the chapter's philanthropic arm that has donated over $50,000 in grants to help nonprofit organizations with their own marketing programs.
The AMA Houston Chapter Penny Todd Scholarship will be donating scholarships in 2017 to deserving Houston-area college students majoring in marketing. To donate to the scholarship fund, please click on the button below.

What am I volunteering to give?
In short, time and expertise. Raising your hand to be a part of this program does not require you give money or services with hard costs. We’re asking for volunteers willing to take time to share their knowledge on a consulting basis with AMAGB grant recipients. Volunteers will offer advice, serve as a sounding board and be a guidepost in helping AMAGB clients plan effective use of their grant dollars.
How much time will I be required to donate?
Volunteer consultants are asked to meet as a team with the AMAGB recipient they’re assigned to (a.k.a. the AMAGB Client) a minimum of three times between July and December. These meetings are intended to allow time to understand the organization’s objectives, make recommendations and follow up with next steps. Additional meetings/time is offered at the discretion of the individual volunteer(s).
What skills do I need to volunteer?
Bring what you know. When you register to volunteer we’ll ask you for information about your skillset and experience so we can pair you with an AMAGB client that has expressed a need for knowledge in your area of expertise.
Who will I work with?
Team assignments will be made in effort to provide AMAGB clients with a well-rounded set of perspectives, skills and experience. Special requests to partner with a particular AMAGB client or peer volunteer may be made. However, please understand we may not be able to honor all requests and we cannot guarantee placement.
